Up-and-coming star travels west for BVJ debut

Just a girl with a guitar and a love for music. That’s how it all started for Lindsay Broughton, who will perform at Big Valley Jamboree for the first time this weekend.

The Ontario native signed her first record deal with Curve Music when she was just 19 and she’s already making waves around the Canadian country music industry ahead of her first full length album Take Me There, which is set to be released Sept.16.

But perhaps the most interesting part of Broughton’s story is how she was discovered in the first place.

“I had been writing poetry forever and I started putting my poems to music once I picked up a guitar in high school,” she said. “I decided that I wanted to start recording some of these songs so I went into a friend’s basement and recorded a crappy little demo and put it up on Myspace — when Myspace was popular. Within a few weeks I actually had interest from a couple of different labels…it’s basically been a roller coaster since then.”
